About Cavatina
Cavatina, a concise music for Solo Guitar written by Stanley Myers for the 1978 drama film "The Deer Hunter". Mr. Myers originally written it for the Piano but because John Williams (a world renowned guitarist) invited him to collaborate, he expanded the piece further and adapted it for the Solo Guitar. Now, despite Cavatina's relatively high technical demand, it sits on every Solo Guitarist's repertoire and became one of the timeless pieces arranged for Solo Guitar.

About The Godfather Love Theme
Speak Softly Love is the main theme music of The Godfather movie. Whilst its instrumental variant is simply known as "The Godfather Love Theme", "Speak Softly Love" is the song variant. The beautiful words were written by Larry Kusic and the passionate music itself was written by Nino Rota. The theme appears numerous times in the movie, more often that not as an instrumental piece.

I grew up knowing that The Godfather movie exists but I'm not interested enough to actually watch it until I read the book. I was absorbed by Mario Puzo's description of the underground world, by politics, some sex, and tons of violence. So absorbed, I would love to be a part of a strong and powerful family such as Carleone's. I could be their family's exclusive musician. (I just thought.)

After watching the movie, the main theme really made an impression on me. I find myself humming it, learning the lyrics of the song, and listening to its different versions. It never fails to amaze me. It sounds different every time. I thought that I will just listen to it as usually, but ended up doing an arrangement. Hence, this solo guitar performance video.

P.S. I actually watched the trilogy.

About Castlevania Requiem for the gods
Requiem for the gods is the Royal Chapel's theme. Originally, Michiru Yamane used vocals, tolling bells, and organ to depict the still and eerie mood that the Royal Chapel demands.

About Spanish Romance
Spanish Romance is a popular piece for solo guitar. It is also called by its other names such as Romanza, Romance D’Amour, and Romance de España. Currently, the authorship of the piece is in question. It is suspected however, that it is an instrumental guitar work from the 19th century. Spanish Romance’s earliest recording is on a cylinder. It was made in Madrid sometime between 1897 and 1901. It was titled “Sort-Estudio para Guitarra por S. Ramirez. More likely than not, the name “Sort refers to Fernando Sor, for Sor’s surname is sometimes also spelled Sort or Sorts.

Spanish Romance comes with a lot of names. Every time I perform it, people always come up to me and ask what is its title only to find out that they have a different name for it. It never ceases to amaze me how come people managed to give it too many names! Besides the names that I mentioned above, there’s more such as: Fireworks, Forbidden Game, Romance of the Guitar, and I believe many more will come as long as I perform this in public. :)

Take the 'A' Train perhaps is the most famous among the pieces to emerge from the collaboration of Ellington and Strayhorn. When one hears the Duke Ellington orchestra, Take the 'A' Train comes to mind.

Wood Carving Partita, from the popular video game Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. The enchanting music is regarded as one of the best in the series.

One afternoon when I was practicing Mysterious Habitats, I came face to face with the Storm Summoner. Alone practicing in my room, I looked on ways how to make the solo guitar piece more interesting, just like my esteemed teachers taught me many years ago. I delved further into the music score only to hear a deafening sound of thunder begin to roll and grabbed my attention away from studying. I looked out the window. The sky was tar-black and the large clouds were quickly moving towards me. Suddenly, a gust of wind blew on my face then the heavy rain fell. For some reason, all I could think as I held my breath, trying not to be bothered by it, "Why does it always rain every time I play this piece." I looked back to where I'm practicing. The wind made the sheet music to flutter, and I secured it on the music stand. Staring at the sheet music, I realized I was looking at the Storm Summoner.

I was invited by a good guitarist friend of mine to attend his birthday party. I have a gig that day so I told the celebrant in advance that once my engagement is done, I will go straight to his party urgently. When I arrived at the place, the people asked me to play a piece. What am I suppose to play, I asked. Any piece will do, they said. So I took the classical guitar into my hands and started playing the first piece that occured to me, Lagrima. After I played Lagrima, a wise teacher gave a remark about the piece and told us a story about it:

Sometime in 1881 while Tarrega was performing in London. The maestro found the weather not to his liking. Probably one of the reasons why he have been depresed. After the concert, the onlookers noticed that he is in low spirit. "What is the matter, maestro?" they asked him. "Do you miss home? Your family, perhaps?" They advised him to capture that moment of sadness in his music.

I still find the story dubious for I never have had the opportunity to see a primary source citied for it. However, Lagrima do evokes a strong emotions to some listeners, causing some I've witnessed to weep (or my playing was just hideous). :)

Game of Thrones Main Theme

Music written by Ramin Djawadi

This is one of my favorite music written for a television series. It really depicts the series' Mise en scene (Visual theme) and will take a listener to a far place reminiscent of a medieval epoch.

At first, I intended to arrange it for solo guitar but I was so disappointed for it just didn't cut it. Even though I rearrange and re-record it several times, It lacks the epic feel I'm looking for. So I tried a different approach. I chose to do it in a way that will suit the classical guitar and maintained pivotal elements to make it sound closer to the epic feel of the original.

My listeners' thoughts are very dear to me. Please take a moment to leave your comments or thoughts in the comment section. If you enjoyed this piece, please repost, share it with your friends on Facebook or Twitter. Thank you very much!
